Making a campaign appearance in DeSoto County Monday, U.S. Senate candidate Ronnie Musgrove said Republicans and Democrats across the state are saying they are frustrated in dealing with "an economy that is in a mess."

Musgrove, a Democrat and former governor, said people are talking about high gas prices, high food prices and a financial market that is in trouble.

"On top of all of that, all of my Republican friends say that fiscal responsibility has lapsed in Washington with the borrowing of so much money from countries like China and India," Musgrove said in an interview outside the Courthouse in Hernando.

He had just emerged from visiting offices and shaking hands. If elected on Nov. 4, he said he will support actions to deal with the problems.

Musgrove and Republican Roger Wicker, former First District congressman, are vying for the Senate seat formerly held by Republican Trent Lott, who retired last December.
