Supports Comprehensive Solutions that include drilling, cracking down on speculators, standing up to big oil companies and investing in alternative energy

GREENVILLE, MS - During a campaign trip through the Delta, Governor Ronnie Musgrove today called on Congress to pass an energy plan that will help lower gas prices now, protect Americans in the long term and lead to energy independence.

"We need real solutions that can lower gas prices right away. We need a comprehensive plan," Musgrove said. "Real solutions include drilling and also cracking down on speculators and standing up to big oil companies."

Musgrove wants Congress to crack down on Wall Street speculators, a move that could lower prices at the pump as much as $1.00 per gallon. And while big oil companies are making obscene profits, Mississippians are struggling to pay for gas. Rather than giving oil companies tax breaks that increase their profits we should be investing in ways to lower gas prices through renewable energy and clean refinement capacity.

Investments in alternative energy and conservation will help lead America to independence on foreign oil. Musgrove has also called for increased fuel efficiency and for the use of technology that can get more oil from old wells.

"Unfortunately, Washington has done nothing to lower gas prices. They have given us an Enron loophole that lets speculators manipulate the price of oil. They have given oil companies taxes breaks as they make record profits off us. And they have not given us enough invest in alternative energy, conservation, better fuel standards, more clean refining capacity or additional opportunities for drilling," Musgrove said.
