Meridian, MS- With the economy headed in the wrong direction and an unemployment rate more than two points higher now than when he left office, Governor Ronnie Musgrove is calling for the return of fiscal responsibility and a change in Washington.
"It is time to protect the values we hold dear because for too long Washington has been protecting the values of the special interests. They have borrowed too much money from, and mortgaged our future to, countries like China and India," Musgrove said during a campaign trip through East Mississippi.
Mississippians are suffering from Washington's wasteful spending, pork barrel politics, favors for special interests and campaign donors, and partisan politics.
Families are being squeezed by the price of gas, and everything else, and are struggling to get by.
Businesses and their employees are feeling the pressure from trade deals like NAFTA, CAFTA and free trade with China that have had a devastating effect on Mississippi's unemployment rate, which is at staggering levels. These unfair trade deals that Roger Wicker supports have cost Mississippi 44,000 jobs.
"Not only are Mississippi's workers watching their jobs go overseas to countries like China and Mexico, now they are watching illegal immigrants take their jobs away in our own backyard. All while Washington is gridlocked and our problems are getting worse," Musgrove said.
Musgrove made the tough choices as governor and he'll make the tough decisions in the senate. As governor, he created 52,000 jobs and brought $14 billion of investment to Mississippi, including the Nissan plan.
In the Senate, he will fight to restore fiscal responsibility and accountable government and to protect our jobs. He will stand up for Mississippi values and put people first, not a political party, insiders or special interests.
