Musgrove Calls for Change in Washington to Improve Economy, Education

Biloxi, MS- During a campaign trip through the Coast Ronnie Musgrove today talked about the need to change the broken system in Washington to protect our economy, improve education and provide a chance for Americans to work hard to get ahead.

"Our government has forgotten what its business is. Its business is to take care of the people's business, not the special interest's," Musgrove said. "Now is the time to act. We can end the wasteful spending and corrupt Washington ways. We can stand for working men and women and challenge the powerful interests. We can change the way Washington does business."

Musgrove will fight to change the broken system in Washington where insiders and campaign donors get special treatment that we don't get. Mississippians are suffering because of Washington's wasteful spending, pork barrel politics, and too much partisan bickering. In the Senate, Musgrove will put Mississippi first, not a political party. He will make the tough choices and he will work to restore fiscal responsibility.

Musgrove discussed the importance of providing a strong education to secure a better quality of life and stronger future for Mississippi. As senator, Musgrove will work to ensure that states receive full funding from the federal government for important education programs.

"Rather than working to improve our education, Washington is mired in partisan bickering," Musgrove said.

As governor, Musgrove balanced the budget every year and passed historic education funding reforms to ensure every school got its fair share. His administration enacted the largest teacher pay raise in state history, strengthened school accountability standards, and made Mississippi the first state in the nation to have an internet accessible computer in every classroom.

Musgrove also discussed the need for residents of the Coast to have access to multi peril insurance in order to rebuild and the need for an energy policy that will lower gas prices and end our dependence on foreign oil.
