Ares File Sharing: Continued Growth While Legal Issues Loom
The use of file sharing software like Ares is still a growing community of people even with the questions of legality looming over them. It would seem that limewire installed on one third of worlds pcs is a problem for the recording companies. Is it because they are greedy or because they are right? That depends on the person or company you ask. Naturally, if you ask a representative of a major recording company they will tell you it is causing them a loss of revenue and that it is illegal to share these files without paying royalties. It is funny how it didn’t seem to bother them that people copied and shared cassettes and CDs all those years.
Is P2P Really That Big of a Deal
Is P2p really that big of a deal? The answer to that question differs depending upon who you ask. If you ask the kid that uses p2p file sharing software you will get mostly praise about the issue. If you talk to that kid’s parents you will probably get mixed feelings about the issue like the dangers of malware and safety versus how great it is to save the money for certain files and programs. There are other answers you will get from the owners of the properties being shared on these networks. They feel they are being “ripped off” with this software. Most people that participate in file sharing feel it is no different than copying a one tape or CD to give to a friend or for backup purposes. The answers to the question vary which keeps the issue alive in the courts.
